Train With Bane
Loose Leash Liberty
If you’ve ever felt frustrated with pulling on the leash, you’re not alone. This video walks through what I focused on while training Bane to walk calmly on a loose leash, and also includes real-time footage of Bane sniffing and exploring, so you can get a true sense of what relaxed, natural leash walking looks like.
Most loose leash videos teach a kind of pseudo heel where your dog has to walk by your side, and that’s fine if that’s your goal, but this isn’t that.
The aim here is for your dog to sniff, explore and move freely, without pulling.
Your dog will reach the end of the lead sometimes. Instead of asking for constant attention, the focus here is on what Bane learned to do when he felt the leash tighten, and to ease off rather than pull harder.
By backing off when he reached the end of the lead, Bane actually learned that relaxing gets him where he wants to go faster.
Over time, this understanding carried over into other situations, especially around distractions.
This approach helps build calm attention, impulse control and real-world reliability...skills that make recall, distraction training and good manners much easier later on.

Remember, this isn’t about walking in perfect formation, it’s about building a calm understanding between you and your dog. The more you practise relaxed, pressure-free walks, the faster your dog learns that staying loose on the leash is what makes the walk keep going.
Start with short sessions and don’t worry if it’s not perfect straight away. Every step you take together builds the foundation for everything else; focus, recall and real-world reliability all start with this!
